Antenatal Care: Everything Expectant Mothers in Warangal Need to Know
Pregnancy is one of the most beautiful journeys in a woman's life, but it also requires careful medical supervision to ensure the health of both mother and baby. Antenatal care (ANC) — the regular medical check-ups and monitoring during pregnancy — is essential for detecting and managing complications early, preparing for a safe delivery and ensuring optimal maternal and foetal health. For expectant mothers in Warangal, Hanamkonda and Kazipet, Baby's Life Hospital provides comprehensive antenatal care under the expert guidance of Dr. Praveena T.
When to Start Antenatal Care
Ideally, antenatal care should begin as soon as pregnancy is confirmed — typically around 6-8 weeks of gestation. Early registration allows for important first-trimester screening, including the nuchal translucency (NT) scan at 11-14 weeks and blood tests for anaemia, blood group, Rh factor, HIV, Hepatitis B, thyroid function and blood sugar. These early investigations help identify risk factors and plan appropriate management from the outset.
What Happens During ANC Visits
During each antenatal visit, your doctor will check your blood pressure, weight, urine for protein and sugar, and measure your uterine growth (fundal height). Foetal heart rate is monitored from the second trimester onwards. Key ultrasound scans are scheduled at specific intervals — viability scan (6-8 weeks), NT scan (11-14 weeks), anomaly or TIFFA scan (18-22 weeks) and growth scan (32-36 weeks). Additional scans and blood tests are ordered based on individual risk factors. Visits are monthly in the first two trimesters, fortnightly from 28-36 weeks and weekly from 36 weeks until delivery.
Managing Common Pregnancy Concerns
Morning sickness, back pain, swelling, heartburn, constipation and fatigue are common during pregnancy. Your antenatal visits are the right time to discuss these with your doctor, who can provide safe remedies and reassurance. More serious conditions like gestational diabetes, pre-eclampsia, thyroid dysfunction and anaemia are actively screened for and managed through medication, dietary modifications and closer monitoring. At Baby's Life Hospital, we also conduct antenatal classes to prepare mothers for labour, breastfeeding and newborn care.
